Main Journey of Exploring Delhi
With our Namibia visa documents prepared and filed, it was finally time to explore the bustling city of Delhi. The day began with breakfast at Everest Bakery Cafe in Paharganj, famous among travelers for its affordable and delicious options.
We then visited the National Gandhi Museum, learning about the life and philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi, followed by a short walk to Raj Ghat, a serene memorial dedicated to the Indian leader. Despite the scorching heat, we managed to enjoy the day and learn more about Delhiโs rich history.
Events
Breakfast at Everest Bakery Cafe
Located in the narrow lanes of Paharganj, Everest Bakery Cafe is a haven for travelers. We enjoyed a Spanish Breakfast and a French Breakfast, both served with chai or coffee. While the chai was a hit, the coffee was disappointing, lacking the strength we were hoping for.
Sweetie kept us entertained with her chatter, describing everything around her with childlike curiosity. It was a joyful way to start the day.
Completing Namibia Visa Preparations
Before diving into sightseeing, we needed to finalize our visa documents. Thanks to a tip from our guesthouse owner, we found a nearby shop offering photocopies for just โน2 per pageโa lifesaver considering the 200+ pages we needed.
Once everything was sorted and packed, we were finally ready for Mondayโs visa appointment.
Visiting the National Gandhi Museum
Our first sightseeing stop was the National Gandhi Museum, an air-conditioned respite from Delhiโs heat. The museum chronicles Gandhiโs life, including his nonviolent resistance efforts and his push for social equality in India.
Highlights included:
- Gandhiโs handwritten letters and personal items.
- A spinning wheel exhibit, symbolizing his push for self-reliance.
- Audio clips of Gandhiโs speeches, which Sweetie found fascinating.
Raj Ghat โ A Tribute to Gandhi
Just a short walk from the museum, Raj Ghat is a peaceful memorial marking the site of Gandhiโs cremation. Surrounded by a tranquil park, it features a black marble platform and an eternal flame honoring his legacy.
Though the midday heat was intense, we took a moment to appreciate the simplicity and reverence of the space. Sweetie curiously pointed out Gandhiโs images and sculptures, making it a memorable visit for all of us.
