Main Journey
Day 96 of our world travel with Sweetie. After a hot but fascinating visit to Esna Temple earlier that day, we returned to the cruise ship completely drained. One of the real perks of a Nile River cruise? You can nap right after a morning of exploring ancient ruins. And we did exactly that.
Julie must have woken up first. When I opened my eyes, I saw her carefully hand-stitching a small tear in one of our packing pouches. The sight brought back memories—before Sweetie was born, Julie would spend hours hand-making tiny baby clothes. Those little outfits were so small… And now here she is, all grown up and running around temples with us.
Sweetie, still drowsy from the heat, seemed unusually tired after the outing. Outside, the Nile flowed past a wall of palm trees—Egypt’s signature silhouette. The water looked almost black, thick with mystery, like a perfect home for Nile crocodiles.
Before we knew it, the ship had docked in Luxor. But check-out wasn’t until the next morning. We had one last afternoon to relax.
Sweetie, freshly recharged from her nap, was beaming with energy. We quickly got her changed into her swimsuit and headed up to the sun deck for a swim.
Events
The sun was still shining strong, casting golden light across the Nile. The pool was warm and refreshing—the perfect way to cool off from Egypt’s desert heat. Sweetie didn’t hesitate—she splashed right in with pure joy.
Not long after, an Indian kid on board noticed Sweetie’s excitement and decided it was time for some friendly competition—cue the dramatic diving show! We all laughed. It’s those spontaneous little moments that make cruise travel so unexpectedly human.
Despite not knowing much about the cruise when we booked it, it turned out to be exactly the break we needed. After weeks of fast-paced travel across Africa, this floating hotel was a peaceful oasis.
Later that evening, we ran into the only other Korean travelers on board—one couple and two guys traveling together. Since we’d seen each other around mealtimes, we naturally started chatting. Dinner turned into beers on the deck, and soon, we were deep into conversations about long-term travel, sharing past itineraries, travel tips, and perspectives on life on the road.
As luck would have it, the couple had already booked a Luxor tour through a local agency and invited us to join. The two friends were on board too. Just like that, we had a plan for tomorrow—our Luxor East and West Bank tour, with a new group of travel companions.

Tips for Traveling with a Baby
- Nap time is sacred: The cruise gave us the flexibility to come back, cool down, and nap as a family. It really made a difference in everyone’s mood.
- Swimming breaks are gold: If you’re on a cruise with a baby or toddler, take full advantage of the pool. It’s fun, cooling, and a great way for your baby to burn energy.
- Pack for downtime: Don’t just plan for excursions. Bring things like swimsuits, a sunhat, or even a few comfort items for relaxing days onboard.

Local Travel Tips
- Cruise flexibility is underrated: Having your hotel move with you means you can rest after sightseeing without wasting transit time.
- Join group tours last-minute: If you’re not sure about booking tours in advance, cruise connections often lead to shared plans. Talk to other travelers onboard.
- Socialize onboard: Even on a short cruise, the people you meet can change your whole itinerary—and your outlook on travel.
Travel Reflections
It’s funny how the quietest days can be the most memorable. No grand ruins or epic treks—just a swim, some sun, and a few meaningful conversations with strangers who became tomorrow’s travel companions.
Watching Sweetie paddle happily in the pool, it struck me: this journey isn’t just about what we see—it’s about how we live through it together. The calm between the sights is where a lot of the magic hides.
That night, back in our room, Julie and I stayed up late talking. About the day, about how much Sweetie has grown, about how different we feel from when we first started this trip. It’s wild how travel doesn’t just take you around the world—it brings you home to yourself.
