Main Journey in Grand Baie Public Beach Mauritius
Thereโs something magical about returning to the same beach and being struck with awe all over again.
This morning, after properly gearing up for swimming, we headed back to the tranquil waters of Grand Baie Public Beach. Even though we had been here just yesterday, the beauty of the sea left us speechless once more.
The soft jade-green hues of the water sparkled under the sunlight, just as they had before. I couldnโt help but marvel at how every beach around the world has its own character. From the Mediterranean to the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean, each sea reflects a unique blend of factorsโsunlight angle, sand color, and water depthโall contributing to slight but distinct differences.
But one thing is universal: beaches like this make you want to dive right in.
Events
Sweetieโs First Swim in Grand Baie
Sweetie had been buzzing with excitement all morning, insisting on wearing her swimsuit as soon as we mentioned swimming. The moment we reached the beach, she was ready to jump in, her little feet already paddling in anticipation.
The water here was even calmer than we expectedโso still, it reminded me of the “Dead Sea” in Turkeyโs รlรผdeniz, but even gentler. Compared to the crashing waves we experienced in Da Nang, Vietnam, this beach felt like paradise for families. It was the perfect, safe environment for Sweetie to enjoy her first real swim.
She confidently floated with her inflatable ring and kicked her legs like sheโd been swimming forever. Her laughter rang out as she splashed around, and we felt so grateful for this quiet little slice of heaven, where it felt like we had the entire beach to ourselves.
Coral Sand and Cloud Shadows
The sand at Grand Baie was as white and fine as powdered sugar, made up of crushed coral. Sweetie was thrilled when we picked up small pieces of coral to show her, clutching them tightly in her tiny hands like treasures she couldnโt part with.
As the afternoon went on, clouds began to gather, casting shadows over the beach. The temperature dropped slightly each time the sun disappeared, making us grateful for the warm ocean water that kept us comfortable.
A Sleepy Ride Home and Simple Comforts
After our swim, Sweetie was visibly tired. The combination of swimming and playing in the sun seemed to hit all three of us hardโwe could barely keep our eyes open on the way back home.
Dinner was a simple but nostalgic affair: rice with Spam, stir-fried potatoes, and sunny-side-up eggs. It may sound ordinary, but to us, it felt like a taste of home.
Sitting around the table, enjoying our meal together, I couldnโt help but feel that Mauritius is a place I could stay forever. Even while Iโm still here, I already miss it.

Tips for Traveling with a Baby
- Choose Calm Beaches for Swimming
Grand Baie Public Beach is ideal for babies and toddlers, thanks to its calm waters and gentle slopes. Beaches with little to no waves are not only safer but also less intimidating for young children just starting to explore the water. - Pack for Sun and Shade
While the weather in Mauritius can be sunny and warm, clouds and shadows can make it feel cooler, especially after swimming. Pack a lightweight blanket or an extra towel to keep your baby warm if the weather changes unexpectedly. - Bring Toys or Collect Natural Treasures
If your little one isnโt ready for a full swim, give them something fun to do, like collecting shells or coral pieces. Sweetie was overjoyed to hold her coral “treasures,” and it kept her entertained after her swim.
