Main Journey

We decided to visit Avenue of the Baobabs once more for another sunrise. This morning, the sky was filled with soft clouds, and we were the only travelers who had arrived early to witness the moment.

Setting up the camera for a time-lapse felt exciting. However, as the sun started to rise, I realized that my framing was off—the composition was all wrong, with some baobab trees cut off. Frustrated, I stopped recording, and just as I did, the sky began to turn a deep red. It was a classic case of bad timing.

The sun, still below the horizon, slowly painted the sky in shades of orange and pink, while the massive baobab trees stood tall, seemingly waiting for the first rays of light to touch them.

Events

As the morning glow spread across the sky, Sweetie was busy playing in the sand, giving us a perfect moment to take a rare couple’s photo. The sky looked clearer than on our first visit, making the scenery even more breathtaking.

No matter how many times I see these majestic baobabs, I never get tired of them. Knowing that this kind of landscape exists only here makes every moment spent among them feel precious.

Just before sunrise, the road through the baobab trees became busier. More cars passed by than the previous visit, reminding us that life here moves forward, even in a place that feels so timeless.

Sweetie, tired of waiting for the sun, snuggled into Grandpa Dizy’s arms, enjoying the warmth.

And then, finally, the sun began to peek over the horizon.

The sky shifted from soft pastels to a fiery glow, and in just moments, the sun fully emerged, rising swiftly into the sky. It was our last sunrise in Morondava, but what a way to say goodbye.

“Baobabs, we’ll be back soon. Wait for us!” I whispered as we started our journey back.

Tips for Traveling with a Baby

  1. Bring a small toy or activity
    • Waiting for sunrise can feel long for a child. Sand toys or a small book can help keep them entertained.
  2. Dress in layers
    • Early mornings can be chilly, but it warms up quickly once the sun rises. A light jacket is ideal.
  3. Be flexible with expectations
    • If your child gets impatient, take turns enjoying the view while one parent plays with them.
  4. Capture candid moments
    • Instead of aiming for the perfect shot, enjoy the spontaneous and real moments.

Local Travel Tips

  1. Arrive early for a quiet experience
    • The best time to enjoy the baobabs without crowds is before sunrise.
  2. Be mindful of passing vehicles
    • The road through Avenue of the Baobabs is active, especially in the morning.
  3. Don’t rush—soak in the atmosphere
    • Whether it’s your first or second time, take time to appreciate the unique beauty of this place.

Travel Reflections

As we drove away, I asked the driver to stop for a moment. It was hard to leave without taking one last look.

From the car, Sweetie’s voice called out, “Dad, what are you doing?”

“Just saying goodbye,” I replied with a smile.

And with that, we continued our journey, carrying the memory of Morondava’s golden sunrise with us.
