Traveling through Da Nang city on a scooter, we finally reached Da Nang Cathedral, one of the city’s iconic landmarks. Its pink facade stood out among the surrounding tropical greenery and bright blue skies, making it a unique sight compared to the grand, towering cathedrals of Europe. However, finding the entrance wasn’t as easy as expected—Google Maps wasn’t much help, and the small, hidden entry blended into the urban surroundings.
After a bit of circling around, we found a parking area near a few local vendors and parked our scooter for 5,000 VND. In Vietnam, even for scooters, parking fees are paid almost everywhere.
First Impressions of the Cathedral
Though not as large as the name “cathedral” might suggest, the pink-colored structure harmonized beautifully with the tropical setting. Its charm, however, was slightly overshadowed by the high-rise buildings towering behind it—an unfortunate reflection of the lack of preservation for cultural landmarks in the area.
Inside, the cathedral was closed to visitors that day, so like many others, we wandered around the exterior and admired its unique architecture.

While relieved to find it intact, the frustration lingered. Who was the first woman we gave our parking fee to? Why was our scooter moved without notice?
