A Special Day During Our World Travel

Today marks a special milestone: our 4th wedding anniversary, celebrated in the heart of Luang Prabang during our world travel journey. With Sweetie, our curious and energetic 27-month-old, this anniversary feels extra meaningful.

As the day transitioned from a quiet temple visit to the bustling energy of the night market, a spontaneous idea sparked.

The Market Adventure: Searching for Rings

Walking through the vibrant night market, I turned to Julie and said, “Should we get world travel rings to celebrate?” The thought of inexpensive, symbolic rings sounded fun and practical—after all, our original wedding bands were safely stored at home, away from the risks of theft or loss during our travels.

After wandering through countless stalls, we found a simple yet meaningful design: a ring made of three interconnected circles, representing our little family of three.

But as we contemplated the purchase, reality set in. “It’s just another thing to carry,” Julie pointed out. And she was right. Over the years, we’d learned the hard way that material things often became burdens rather than treasures.

So, we let the idea go, deciding instead to hold hands tightly and let the simplicity of the moment—and the journey—be our celebration.

Manda de Laos: A Memorable Dinner

Later, we treated ourselves to a dinner at Manda de Laos, a restaurant we had been eyeing for days. The name, which means “Mother of Laos,” was fitting for the warm and serene ambiance that greeted us.

Walking in, we were awestruck by a stunning water feature at the heart of the restaurant—a hidden oasis that took our breath away.

Sitting by the water, Sweetie delighted in rolling around on the sofa while we savored a rare, romantic moment. The food, though portioned modestly, was delicious, with the pork ribs being a standout dish that even Sweetie enjoyed.

The restaurant manager graciously captured a photo of our little family, marking the occasion with a keepsake that required no storage space—just a happy memory.

Reflections on Love, Travel, and the Future

As we left the restaurant, hand in hand, crossing the bridge over the water, a wave of nostalgia hit me.

Our journey began in 2008, during a volunteer trip to Thailand where Julie and I first met. Back then, we had no idea we’d fall in love, get married in 2013, and embark on a world travel adventure with our beautiful daughter.

What will life look like after this journey? We don’t know, but one thing is certain—we’ll face it together, hand in hand, just as we are now.
