Main Journey

After a sleepless night at the Nuweiba bus terminal, we finally made it to Sharm El Sheikh.

It was July 19th. The temperature reached a scorching 42ยฐC, with no sign of clouds anywhere. We had waited out the early hours of the morning on a hard bench, holding a sleeping Sweetie while the desert slowly brightened.

At 4:59 AM, the sun began to rise over the Sinai Peninsula. The light was beautiful, but it also made us realize we still had over 90 minutes before the bus to Sharm would depart at 6:30 AM.

Sweetie was sleeping on my stomach, which she now lovingly calls the โ€œTomato Bed.โ€ I asked her why it was called that, and she answered with a song about a red, bumpy tomato that smells sweet and wears fancy clothes. No better way to start a day than with baby logic and giggles.

Events

At 6 AM, the ticket window finally opened. The man behind the counter handwrote each ticket in triplicate, stamped them, and handed them over. Tickets cost about 40 Egyptian pounds per personโ€”surprisingly affordable.

The East Delta bus arrived around 6:20 AM and left promptly at 6:30. As the vehicle rolled south across the vast, sandy landscapes of the Sinai, we felt like we were slowly re-entering a different rhythmโ€”away from the chaos of border crossings and back into travel mode.

This return to Egypt wasnโ€™t exactly planned from the beginning. Originally, our Egypt leg was set for about 20 days. But after a few exhausting city experiences, we decided to take a break by detouring to Jordan via ferry and returning refreshed. Now, we were back in Egypt, heading to a place meant for rest: Sharm El Sheikh.

Before leaving Jordan, we had already booked an all-inclusive resort. Our goal was simpleโ€”rest, reset, and recover before continuing on to Europe.

The resort: Xperience Kiroseiz Premier. Our home for the next 3 nights.

Arrival at the Resort

We arrived at the resort before check-in time, so we waited in the lobby. On the wall, we spotted five stars. But just below that, it read โ€œEgyptian Ministry of Tourism,โ€ which made us smile a little. In Egypt, a five-star rating can mean… many things.

While we waited, I headed upstairs and discovered that the all-inclusive package included local beerโ€”specifically, Stella, Egyptโ€™s most popular brew. I hadnโ€™t had a single beer during our time in Egypt because of the cost, so that cold glass felt like a small but deeply satisfying reward. It was the first real moment of โ€œvacationโ€ I had felt in weeks.

When we finally got to our room, we were greeted not with a welcome drink but a platter of fresh fruit. Since drinks were unlimited at the bars anyway, fruit felt like a more thoughtful gesture.

We devoured the fruit, pulled the curtains closed, and passed out for an afternoon nap. Sweetie finally caught up on her missed sleep from the night before.

Tips for Traveling with a Baby

Embrace Flexible Schedules

Our baby slept on my stomach while we waited for hours at the terminal. Being able to adapt to different time zones, routines, and delays is crucial when traveling with a toddler.

Comfort Items Matter

Sweetie calling my belly the โ€œTomato Bedโ€ sounds funny, but itโ€™s her comfort zone. Having something familiarโ€”whether itโ€™s a blanket, a parentโ€™s lap, or a songโ€”helps her adjust to new places.

Rest Days Are Essential

We planned this resort stay to give ourselves and Sweetie a break. Long travel days are hard on little ones. Donโ€™t feel guilty for scheduling downtime.

Look for All-Inclusive Resorts

Meals, drinks, and snacks are all taken care of. Even if not every meal is amazing, the convenience of not worrying about food every few hours is a major benefit when traveling with a baby.

Local Travel Tips

East Delta Buses Are Reliable

From Nuweiba to Sharm El Sheikh, East Delta buses are your best bet. They leave early, run on time, and are affordable.

Buy Tickets Early in the Morning

Ticket windows open at 6 AM, and buses leave soon after. Arrive early to get your seats and avoid confusion.

Donโ€™t Expect Too Much from โ€œ5-Starโ€

Egyptian resort standards can be different. Read reviews, but also lower your expectations a bit. Youโ€™ll enjoy the experience more that way.

Local Beer is a Hidden Gem

Stella beer is light, refreshing, and part of the Egyptian travel experience. If you’re at a resort that offers it, take advantage of it during your break.

Travel Reflections

As we lay in bed that night, full from a less-than-exciting dinner but satisfied all the same, I couldnโ€™t help but reflect on the journey. We had crossed borders, ferries, time zones, and terrains in just a few days. Sweetie had made it through it allโ€”with joy, with songs, and with naps on her โ€œtomato bed.โ€

This first day in Sharm passed in a sleepy blur. But sometimes, thatโ€™s exactly what you need. Not every travel day needs to be filled with exploration. Some are meant for recovery. For staring at a ceiling fan in silence, or watching your child sleep peacefully in the middle of a strange room.

Just restingโ€”together.
