Main Journey of Tibetan Refugee Colony in Delhi

After recovering from a brief illness, our family resumed exploring Delhi with a lighter itinerary. This time, we ventured to the Tibetan Refugee Colony, also known as the Tibetan Colony or Majnu-ka-Tilla. This unique neighborhood, home to Tibetan refugees, offered a rare sense of serenity amidst the chaos of Delhi.

Our day began with a ride on Delhi’s metro system, which led us to the Vidhan Sabha station on the Yellow Line. From there, we took a cycle rickshaw to the colony, immersing ourselves in the quiet charm and fascinating culture of this small enclave.

Events

1. Discovering Tibetan Culture

The Tibetan Refugee Colony instantly felt like a different world. Clean streets, vibrant Tibetan Buddhist temples, and colorful prayer flags created a peaceful atmosphere unlike any other in Delhi.

We wandered through the pristine alleys, marveled at the spinning prayer wheels, and took a moment to enjoy the serene beauty of the Buddhist temple.

2. A Culinary Adventure

The highlight of our visit was dining at a Tibetan restaurant. We indulged in delicious dishes like:

  • Chilli Pork: Reminiscent of Korean stir-fried pork.
  • Chicken Thukpa: A hearty noodle soup similar to Korean jjigae.
  • Mutton Momo: Juicy Tibetan dumplings.

The flavors were bold yet comforting, and we were thrilled to find a place that catered so well to our tastes.

3. An Unexpected Delight

We stumbled upon a cozy café that offered an air-conditioned respite and the best iced Americano we’ve had in India—complete with actual ice cubes! Even the restroom was a revelation: clean and fragrant, a rarity in our travels through India.
